So my 5 1/2 year-old cat, Mortimer (pics in my post history), developed a case of stomatitis last week. I took him to the vet and they pumped him full of steroids and antibiotics and also gave him an IV because he was dehydrated (probably hurt too much to even drink water). The vet is saying that the worst case would be a full dental extraction that would cost at least $1,700. If it comes to that, I will get a second opinion before moving ahead, but I am very nervous. I also looked into pet insurance, but stomatitis is considered a preexisting condition and is not covered. The lab results came back yesterday and showed that his electrolyte levels are high, likely due to stess from the inflammation. His tongue has been sticking out since Thursday night and he is still drooling.
Does anyone have experience with a cat who has stomatitis? It's been almost 48 hours since his vet visit and Mort is still not eating very much and I'm not sure what to do. I bought him some lysine treats and broth and he's barely touching those. Any help/guidance would be appreciated.
