The "we should stop keeping pets" Argument is Dumb

So I found this article called "Should We stop keeping pets?" and I was laughing, but also a bit worried.

Would this actually happen?

Now before I rant, read the article first. https://getpocket.com/explore/item/should-we-stop-keeping-pets-why-more-and-more-ethicists-say-yes?utm_source=pocket-newtab

You know those stories, about kids getting hurt on playgrounds so people get rid of the equipment? And every one is saying how stupid those people are? And that getting rid of that isn't the answer? The same thing applies. Just because some people think of their pets like humans doesn't mean pets as a whole is a bad idea. just make sure more people understand the way pets should be taken care of.

And just imagine if we DID stop keeping pets. Millions of stray animals all over countries? More diseases being carried by animals? More animals dying because of a lack of proper treatment? The animals would be in a WORSE spot than before! Besides, Dogs have been traced to have a bond with humans for thousands of years.

I saw someone say it very well "As long as we have pets being kept in shelters, we'll be having pets" Which is 100% true. which means pet ownership will never end, and that is a good thing.

And dogs seem 10x more happy then humans most of the time (if taken care of well). And animals can't think the way humans do. they Don't care about sex organs, they don't know why haircuts are given, they don't CARE. and as for the eating argument, my dog refused to eat some things I give it, they do have opinions and most humans listen. Tbh if pets had the intelligence of a human, We would ban pet ownership, but they don't.

I've heard some people use the fact that many farm animals ar miserable as an argument that keeping pets is wrong.

what?

No! I think it's perfectly ok to be against eating animals as food and keeping pets, because with keeping pets it's out of care, and usually improves a pet's life. Chicken's have horrible lives, but that's a different topic altogether. And the people who are against farm animals being used for food, are the ones treating animals as humans! The exact thing we thought was incorrect!. Ugh.

As humans, we give them home, prevent animal overpopulation, give them food, and rectify illnesses of animals. And to those who say that too many people take care of pets incorrectly? Well, guess what, too many parents don't take care of kids correctly! which is a worse problem! Humans are more important than animals, so this is the thing we focus on first alright?

I do agree with some points people have. As much as I don't want to admit it, I understand breeding is wrong. I am 100% against de-clawing cats as well.

I think the solution is to force people to have a license in order to have pets. Those who understand to not abuse them, and take care of them properly.
