Worried that my cat can't meow.

My cat recently has a gastro surgery, I was told that because they have to have a tube in her throat during the surgery she might have trouble meowing for a few days. It has now been 18 days since the surgery and she still can't meow. I can tell she is trying she will open her mouth and you can hear the air passing and once in a while a tiny high pitched squeak can be heard but no actual meows. She isn't a super vocal cat but she did meow in greetings when she was excited for food and to get me up or ask for help. I'm worried it won't come back. I mentioned ed it to the vet tech when she got her sutures out and they were confused as to why she still can't meow. I would like her to be able to get my attention when something is wrong
