Cat and Dog

Cat and Dog

My family has a puppy who is 1.5 years old and we recently took in a cat who is 3 years old. It has only been the 2nd day of them interacting, but my family and I are a bit concerned. My dog loves all animals and is just going up to the cat and licking her a lot and wanting to smell her, so she is not aggressive, but she is definitely coming on strong. We have used one room in our house, so the cat can have her own space, but I was trying to pick her up and take her out of hiding to interact with my dog more. Now that I have done that, she has begun to find more and more intense hiding spots where we cannot get her. I know that she needs to get comfortable, but we are finding it hard because either my dog cries and barks all day to see the cat or the cat continues to get traumatized by my dog. We are really stuck for what the right thing to do is. The cat hasn’t eaten all day because she has been hiding, even when we leave her alone she stays hidden it seems. What can we do? Should we continue to let the dog and cat interact? We don’t want to not acknowledge the cat and just leave her in the room all alone & we just aren’t sure what the best plan is. Again, it is only the 2nd day, but it has been pretty hard already.
