Cat caught a mouse but it got away

Found out that there’s a mouse in the house a few days ago. My cat, Pixel, woke me up in the middle of the night trying to catch it. He didn’t get a hold of it then, just managed to chase it underneath a dresser. (He’s a strictly indoor cat so it got in through some other means)

I figured I should get some mouse traps just in case there were more mice than the one he found. Went out and bought some covered snap traps today. But before I could set the traps up, we had another run in with the mouse. This time Pixel caught it. He held it by the back near the tail and kinda just growled a few times and pranced around, showing his “kill” off. Then, he went to put it on the ground and the mouse bolted.

There was some more chasing, but he managed to grab it and he yeeted it across the room. The mouse runs again and Pixel does the same thing again. After this time, though, the mouse manages to run under the couch and we lose it.

I wouldn’t really be worrying if he hadn’t caught it at all. Or if he had killed it that first time he grabbed it. What are the chances that it’s still alive? Injured or otherwise. I just don’t want a dead mouse lying around and not know where the body is at.

This is just the first time we’ve had mice in the house lol, I’m not really sure what to do.
