I took my cat to the vet today because she has been having coughing fits and she has a tough time breathing at night when she sleeps. I knew it wasn’t contagious because my other cats are fine so I started suspecting asthma. The vet took X-rays and confirmed that it is feline asthma and her lungs are very inflamed. He injected her with 10 mg of Depo-Medrol and told me that I will have to come back to have her injected again every 1-3 months depending on how long the steroid takes to wear off. After doing some research I read that these shots can be harmful to cats and that using an inhaler is better. The vet didn’t mention anything about an inhaler and now I’m wondering if having her injected every month is a good idea. The injection will cost me $70 every month and that’s a lot of money for me right now. Is using an inhaler cheaper or should I just stick to the injections?
