We’ve had our cat for about 6-7 months now and he is about 2 years old. He has always been vocal when it gets close to the times we feed him. Recently he has been constantly meowing and whining either outside my door when I have it closed (I usually keep it closed at night because he has chewed up several of my belongings so I don’t trust him to be there when I’m not awake) or even if my door is wide open he will sit outside and meow until I acknowledge him. But every time I get up to pet him or see what he wants he will run away and just stare at me from a distance until crouch down and call him, then he lets me pet him for a few seconds and runs away again.
The shelter we adopted him from also mentioned he was in a house with kids that didn’t treat him very well as well as them owning a lot of other animals and thats why he was taken away from the previous owners. Me and my roommate have not ever been aggressive with him and have tried our best to get him to trust us. He is always very friendly, even to strangers, and will walk up to anyone and let them hold him or pet him after he’s investigated them for a few minutes.
Sorry in advance if there is an obvious solution, this is the first cat I have owned and I’m learning as I go.
