Cat hurts me when kneading (Not because of claws)

Premise: Recently my mom decided to not let the cat out at night because we don't own a cat door, so we open the door at night waking up the house. Not for selfishness or whatever, he uses the litterbox so it's not even because we're prohibiting him to go to the bathroom, it's just because we can't wake up in the middle of the night just to let him in and out of the house (And we refuse to let him stay out at night due to previous experiences).
Now here comes the interesting part: When he jumps onto the bed or onto the couch, he starts kneading quite a lot. Even on my body. At first it might seem cute that a cat is making biscuits, but...he's hurting me in doing so. Not with claws, I could understand that, he applies an hefty amount of pressure to hurt me when kneading.
And when I call him out on that, when I tell him to stop, he just meows me angrily back like he's the victim and I'm an evil owner. And when I try to pet him, he just retracts.
I love him and he's such a good big boi cat, but I want to know if there's something wrong with him because of this habit. I know kneading is natural for a cat, but after these weeks I think he's doing this because of some reason.
Any help on this?
