Hi! I’ve had my kitten for a few months now and she’s an absolute sweetheart. Super curious, loves to play, purrs whenever I pet her, and always snuggles up to my side in bed and on the couch.
The problem is behavioural and I’m not sure what to do about it. She bites and claws at me, which I’m pretty sure is just play, and I try to set boundaries by loudly saying ow and removing myself whenever she does it. She’s even clawed my eye, left a scar, and drawn blood multiple times. I showed the blood to her once and tried to express that I’m in pain and she attacked my arm again.
She also frequently knocks over stuff and bites my plants. I’ve tried the aluminum foil, double sided tape, citrus essential oils diluted in water, but it doesn’t stop her. She’s shattered multiple of my plates and cups, shattered an expensive perfume bottle, and knocked over all the makeup on my desk. Today she tore down the curtains and my lights while I was eating dinner and I didn’t have energy to deal with it so I locked her in the bathroom and I feel so awful- I never want to resort to punishment.
If I try to remove her, she becomes viscerally upset and either attacks me or avoids me for the rest of the day. Whenever she goes a day without bad behaviour, I reward her with treats, lots of pets, and cooked meat (which she prefers vastly) instead of her usual cat food. Her vet says she’s healthy and I also doubt this is a buildup of energy- I play with her until she gets tired and goes to sleep multiple times a day.
I love her to death and I’m sure this is just her being a young kitten and curiosity but I have no idea what to do. This has been going on since I got her months ago. Any advice?
