Hi y'all. I've been a single-cat owner for the last 15 years. Last May, I adopted a wonderful cat named Gigi after her previous owner passed away. However, she is much more energetic than my previous cats, who were very content to just hang out and chill on their own. Gigi loves to play, but both my girlfriend and I work and sleep on non-cat hours, so we were considering adopting another cat to keep her company (and because we love cats!). However, I'm a little nervous about how Gigi would react to another cat. Since we adopted her when she was two, we don't really know if she had any previous experience with other cats, and I don't want there to be any problems if we adopt another cat. She's friendly but likes to bite while playing.
I'd love to hear people's experiences with introducing a second cat to the primary one. Or any tips/suggestions about age/gender of a second cat that we should look into. Would there be less risk if it was a boy or a girl? Kitten or adult?
Thank you!
