Looking for some advice because I've never had a cat before. Someone I know adopted a kitten that they weren't particularly prepared for. It is rambunctious and likes to sneak attack people, leaving some pretty bad scratches. I'm guessing this is very kitten behavior, like training a puppy not to nip, but I don't know. If the cat gets a good scratch on their grandkid I'm pretty sure it will end up back in the shelter. Right now they are thinking of getting the cat declawed. I'm not an expert on cats, but I've read that it's cruel and can cause lifelong pain, which I don't want inflicted on a kitten. Could people who know more about cats give me some advice or resources to pass along about training or things that could help the cat curb the behavior so that they don't resort to surgery.
