I live in a family of 4. We got our cat when he was close to 6 months old, my brother found him as a stray. He is 3 now and I took a year to study vet technology and realized how bad of pet owners we are. 1. He is fat. I talk to my family about the benefits of a diet but they won’t listen and feed him against my will because he is “annoying” 2. His litter could be changed more. I am partially to blame for this, but my brother does work and doesn’t do school, I wish he would help out more. 3. My brother leaves out human food that he eats and throws up, and won’t stop 4. My parents didn’t want to take him to the vet because of a “bad experience during his declaw” I tried talking them out of the declaw, and they said he couldn’t stay with us if he wasn’t. 5. His teeth are so bad now, he is missing a lot and has what I think is gingivitis
To change these things, I got a job at a vet clinic and put him under my benefits plan. He has a vaccine appointment and dental coming up. I want to take better care of him, but I feel so guilty for allowing this terrible behaviour to continue.
This is mostly just a vent. I love my cat and I’m sorry I didn’t take him to the vet myself before it got this bad.
