Hello all. I’m looking for some advice!
My husband and I adopted a senior dog (14) several years ago. He was in pretty rough shape (heart worms, double ear infection, several intentional parasites, etc). We got him back in good shape, and he is loving his twilight years! He goes for a mile long walk every day, loves his wet food, and loves to wrestle his brother. The issues arise at night.
When we first got him, the sweet pup would sleep in bed with us every night. Right in between my husband and myself. Over the last year, he has started refusing to sleep in the bedroom. He insists on sleeping on the couch. This would be a nonissue, except that he comes into the bedroom and barks at us until one of us sleeps on the couch with him. This has been going on for about one year. He has started to lose his vision and hearing, which we believe to be at the core of his anxieties.
We have tried the following:
Night lights Doggy stairs onto our bed Hallway light on Sleeping in his thunder shirt Benedryl before bed Taking away food and water about 1.5 hours before bed Dog bed on the human bed AND on the couch.
If anyone has any ideas or thoughts, I’d love to hear them!!
