I have an 11 year old cat. Hes much larger than the average sized cat as well in length and weight (hes about 20 pounds but not fat at all) Hes usually a pretty gentle creature when it comes to being handled in general. Hell push with his paws sometimes when held but that's all he has ever really done when he wants to be left alone. Previously he has never tried to scratch me, bite me or hiss at me at all or anyone else for that matter for any reason.
However, I now have to give him oral medication twice a day because he was diagnosed with a bowel disease. Any time I try to give it to him he protests pretty hard, hes bit me, scratched me hissed at me etc and with how large he is it makes it more difficult. I'm barely able to get the medicine near his mouth before hell try to bite at me.
I have tried to hid the medicine in his food but he still wont eat it. I've tried to hide it with treats but he wont eat those either. I've tried to swaddle him up in a blanket to help him feel comfortable to give it to him but he realizes what I'm doing and tried to bite and get away. I try to be as gentle as I can to him because I know that he really doesnt like any of this and idk what to do. I'm afraid to be more firm with him but I know that he really needs his medicine in order to get better.
Has anyone dealt with something like this or has any advice??
