My cat doesen't eat raw meat

I have a male cat I have had for a year. He eats mostly dry food and occasionaly some processed meat. Usually he eats the processed meat once every week as his treat. I recently been told by a friend that cats also need raw meat in their diet to stay healthy. I went to some butcher shops today and bought less than 1 kg of mince and also a pack of salmon which was a bit expensive. Overall I spent $18 on his raw meat. When I came home, I cut up the raw salmon into smaller chunks and mixed it with some of the mince. As I first gave it to him, he smelled the bowl and walked away. I have kept constantly putting the bowl in front of him and he won't eat it. I am concerned about his health as I don't want my cat to only survive on processed meat and dry food for the rest of his life. I have spoken to my parents about seeing a vet for my cat for checkups but they refuse to because they think my cat is in 'healthy shape' and I think it's unfair. Ever since they bought the cat for me, he has had 0 visits to the vet ever since. One time he lost weight and I was concerned and told my parents but they refused to take him to the vet and they believed he was 'fine'. I myself am unemployed and live at home with my parents so I can't afford to take him to the vet. I'm not sure if there are any pet services that don't charge you money. I don't know what to do and I need some advice. I have googled online and I found out that if my cat doesen't eat a lot of meat, he will be at risk of developing a heart problem.
