I've asked a similar question in r/nostupidquestions, which I think focused more on why my cat only licks me, but I'm just wondering why my cat only seems to really love me? She definitely likes my mom, she follows my mom around like a little puppy all the time and they have all sorts of adventures in the morning (like going to the kitty/makeup room together, going to the basement, having a kitchen party, sitting in the living room), and she tolerates my dad... but she won't even entertain the idea of either of them picking her up or being so close to her that they could hug her. With me, though, I can pick her up and carry her for a short amount of time no problem and she likes to lay under my arm while we cuddle at night.
She also doesn't lick them, but she'll lick my face and ears while I'm sleeping or hold my hand after kicking the piss out of my wrist to lick my fingers. Sometimes she'll do the lick my skin raw, almost grooming, kind of thing before she rubs her mouth on my fingers like an absolute creep. I hate that so much. She'll also literally run to me when I see her and call her over, but I think that's because I always want to pet her and she loves being loved, but if my dad calls her she'll run away. With my mom it's kind of situational, if she's being pissy at my mom she'll just sit down close enough to watch her but if they're being buddies she'll like come and go a couple of times before going by my mom to cuddle. But that's still different from cuddling with me, because she's being pet and she lets her get her belly but if my mom moves literally an inch it's time for that cat to run away. She also sleeps with me for most of the night, or at least in my closet (most mornings I have to get up at like 4 in the morning to let her out of there because she gets stuck 🙄 and then she meows at me to give her food and let her in the basement 🙄🙄).
For a little more context on the cat that may or may not be relevant, she was a stray we found in our garage and kinda just... Fed and kept? We think she wasn't in a very good place because of a lot of her reactions, but especially since she really hated my dad when we first took her in. The only big guy she likes is my uncle and that took a while for her, and I think it's partially because she can smell his kitties on him so she's like "oh, you smell like you'll be okay to me". I'm also in college and only WORK work on the weekend so I'm home all the time with her while my parents have full time jobs.
So, thoughts? Is it because she's had all of this time to get used to me over the years? Is it just a thing with no real explanation? If she follows my mom around like a little homeboy, wouldn't it make more sense for her to like my mom just as much- if not more?
