We learned this week that our 11 yr old puggle mix has advanced kidney disease. She has responded well to home fluid therapy and likes the renal food. It’s been about two days - yesterday we were so excited because she was normal and joyful on walks with a spring in her step. Then today she threw up after lunch and I can’t stop sobbing. She still has a lot of energy, she ate shortly after vomiting and she’s been begging me for more dinner this evening (I don’t want to give her too much and have her throw it up again)
I’m devastated. I feel like that vomit means we are really on the final march together. I can’t sleep. I’m not ready for this.
Do you know anything else we can do to help her? How do I find out how much time she has left?
The vet said days to weeks, not likely months, but that was before she had any fluid therapy and before they saw her response to that. My husband thinks the vet is right.
We have a second very similar male dog of a similar age. He is nervous and neurotic and she has helped him to be brave. How do I help him through this? Will he die of sadness shortly after?
Im so heartbroken.
