It's been a really tough few years and I have been insanely lonely with no one I care about being in the same city as me. A couple months ago I went to visit my girlfriend in her home city and lived with her for around a month. It was amazing During that time I fell in love with her dog whisper, I never had a companion that I could just sit next to and be haply with. It's difficult to explain but I'm sure other per owners get it. I loved taking care of him, taking him on walks, giving him baths and even taking him to the vet a bunch of times (he has a small infection we needed to take care of) the entire experience really made me wanna rescue a dog from a kennel and raise him at home
Cut to a couple weeks later a steady cat wandered into out building and for some reason was very comfortable around me. I started giving him milk and cleaning him up a little and would love seeing him every time I stepped out. Unfortunately due to it being a stray the apartment guard had to shoo him away and I haven't seen him since. That really hurt and I had genuinely gotten close to him.
I love animals and really want to get a pet I can take care of and look after, I have a lot of free time on my hands as a college dropout but Unfortunately my dad is very against getting a dog or a cat cause be feels they will add extra work for my mom who cleans the house. I'm used to cleaning my own room and even cleaning the full house but my mom is a bit of a neat freak so it would be tough (though she actually loves dogs as she was raised on a farm and had lots of pet dogs so she is actually more open to the idea)
Anyway getting back on track, my dad suggested getting a bird and I don't know too much about birds but that got me thinking what other animals would be a good alternative to have. Any suggestions would be helpful, I don't want to get a pet as a vanity project or anything like that I just want a companion I can take care of and interact with. Pets like fishes I've had before but due to lack of equipment they died soon and honestly felt more like planet as I couldn't really interact much with them
Why suggestions for animals I could consider getting would be great, I don't want to rush into anything and really want to do My research before any decision. I've saved up some money so I have a bit to invest but I'm just really confused.
Sorry if the post is random im not in the best state if mental health rn
