Should I take in this (presumably) stray cat?

Hey folks.

A few months ago my parents (who live just across the road from me) reported seeing a very friendly cat show up. We live on a secluded farm, and it's not unusual for us to have animals show up on occasion. I hadn't seen this cat myself until today. I didn't get to speak with them to confirm that it was the same cat, but that's irrelevant at this point.

The cat followed me back to my house and came inside. I immediately knew at this point that I wanted to keep it because I adore animals (cats especially) and want to save as many as I can. My brother and I have two cats in this house already, which made me reluctant to take another one in because one of them hates new animals.

The cats haven't met each other yet. Before the new one came to my house, I locked up the others in another room for a short time. This gave the new cat enough time to come in and eat (he was clearly starving since he ate for well over ten minutes) and get familiar with the house. Right now he's in my room with me and will remain here (with food, water, and litter, of course) until I'm confident enough to let him meet the other two. Speaking of them, they're currently getting used to the new cat's scent, and are pretty upset about it.

The new cat has become pretty anxious since I brought him here. He's been spending most of his time looking out the window and meowing incessantly as if he's in pain. If he's not doing that, he's the complete opposite (that is, laying on his back asleep and not making a sound). Maybe I'm overthinking this, but I'm worried that he would actually rather be outside since he's very likely spent most of his life outdoors.

There's also the possibility that this cat actually does belong to someone (mostly supported by the fact that he is so friendly). If he did, however, I worry that he wasn't treated particularly well because he does have a few minor cuts and bruises. More likely than not those came from other animals, but it still makes you think.

So in conclusion - this animal is, to the best of my knowledge, a stray that has come to my house. I have two very upset cats in addition to this one who are not going to take it well once I reveal him. But I worry that he would be better off as an outside cat.

I really want to keep him, but ultimately I want to do what is best for the cat. Any advice is welcome.
