Adopting a Declawed Cat

Hey Redditors,

Firstly my post isn't to propagate declawing cats, I know its bad for cats and I totally agree a cat shouldn't be put under the process.

My Girlfriend and I live in an apartment with virtually no outdoor space/ close access to one and are thinking about adopting a cat. I have a condition called Dermatographism, which causes an allergy like reaction if my skin is scratched. I'm fine with cats, but have had some problems if they scratched me. My girlfriend read online about adopting a declawed cat. I'd love to give that cat a home, but its really awkward asking about a declawed cat to shelters. Specially as the skin condition isn't really common, we've had weird reactions from some shelters we have contacted before.

I'd love to give such a cat a home, as I told earlier our apartment doesn't have many windows/access to outdoor space the cat could escape from and would stay indoors always. I'm still a bit worried about how we'll approach that idea, we've tried looking online but haven't had much success. (We're in Melbourne, Australia) If anyone knows of any such shelter let me know.
