So long story short, i adopted a shelter dog (3 years old) about 2 months ago and things have been rough. She has been incredibly anxious and has miserably separation anxiety. Yesterday we went to the vet and she prescribed fluoxetine which takes 30 days to kick in, and Trazodone in the mean time to ease her anxiety (stopping that once the fluoxetine kicks in). Today is the first day on it and she warned me my pup would be lethargic...she’s super sleepy and has a totally chill personality - moves slowly and is so cuddly. While I know this is just the “getting used to it” period, I can’t help but feel like a bad mom for doing something to alter her personality so much. I know that in the long run she will not be like this, and I really was so heartbroken watching her be soooo anxious these past couple months, I can’t help but feel like I am making her sad by changing her personality. Has anyone else felt this way when their pets started an anti anxiety medication like this?? Did your dogs personality return??
