Cat kneading excessively

Hi everyone!

It's just as the title say - my cat is kneading excessively. You might think it's an exaggeration, but it definitely isn't!

For example, when I pet her, she automatically has to start looking for a soft blanket to knead on. She only purrs if she's kneading. She kneads me awake in the morning. She kneads herself to bed. She kneads various objects, mostly blankets. It's constant and I'm worried.

Should I be worried about this? I've never met a cat who kneads so much so I'm starting to think there's something wrong with her psyche. She does come from a difficult background when I got her from the rescue. Is this normal behavior?

Any information would be nice. Thanks!
