Cold weather dog boots?

We've never had a dog before, so not sure if these are a need or what, but...

We adopted a coonhound this past spring. I walk him 3 times a day - morning, afternoon, and night. We average 5-7 miles a day and live in a suburban neighborhood, so it's primarily streets and yards he's on. The city/county does use salt on streets when needed as well.

When it was 100° out, I wouldn't walk the dog on the blacktop because I didn't want his paws to burn. First, it's mean and I don't want to hurt a dog, second I don't want vet visited for burned paws.

Now we're looking at a record cold snap next week in the Midwest - wind chills in the shingle digits and teens. Do I need to get boots for him? Do I need them for just cold, or just when road crews drop salt on the snowy streets?

I found these on Amazon, but have no idea if he will wear them.

I don't want him to get frostbite from a walk, but both of us really benefit from the walks. We do have a large fenced yard and I'm happy to do my walks alone. Along the same lines, how cold is too cold for a 30 minute walk? I know coonhounds are a hunting breed, and he's a tall dog, so I'm not overly worried about needing a body cover...but should I be thinking about this as well?
