Hyperthyroidism in 18 year old cat

Hello all. I have an 18 year old tabby cat with hypothyroidism. Our vet prescribed him felamnizole, but he seems to have a reaction to it, because when he’s on it he can’t walk straight and stumbles around. So our vet told us to take him off of it for a little while. Currently he also takes aspirin and benazepril. We go back to the vet next week, but I would just like to know what to expect to hear from her. Is there a substitute to felamnizole? Are there any other options? Could a change in diet help with his hyperthyroidism?
