So I found these two kittens today on Craigslist. They’re siblings and are healthy...except for the fact that they are full of fleas. So they’ve been medicated for heart worms with Nemex (pyrantel pampoate) and I bathed them both in dawn soap—I couldn’t get all of the fleas though. After their bath, I dried them off and gave them flea drop treatments (advantage II). I let them roam around my place for a bit before putting them back into a large dog crate to “quarantine” them until all the fleas are gone.
My question is, How can I treat them for fleas while preventing an infestation (of them and my apartment)?
Any advice would be GREATLY appreciated!
Side question: Did I mess up by letting them walk around my place? I sprayed it down thoroughly afterwards with a natural flea repellent and killer.
Mistake #2: I threw the towels that I used to dry them off after the bath into the washer. Forgot to turn it on immediately so I opened it to add detergent like 1 hour later and noticed fleas hopping around in the machine. Is it possible that they laid eggs everywhere in there? I’m assuming I’d kill everything off with a wash.
TL;DR: Got two kittens, how can I beat manage their fleas and prevent a massive home infestation?
