Hello r/pets, I'd like to preface this post by saying I'm not asking any of you for monetary contributions. Additionally, if there is a more appropriate subreddit to post these questions on, please do let me know.
Anyway, I have been in a deep depression running on for a couple years now. My life has pretty much come to a standstill at this point. I have been thinking about rescuing a pup all year. Someone to get out of bed for in the morning, someone to be by my side that I can care for. A reason to keep going. As I said, the only thing holding me back is the cost of medical bills. I've done some research with my therapist and case manager, and we did find programs out there that help with this sort of thing. Unfortunately for myself, the programs we were able to find are more targeted (understandably so) towards veterans, those with autism, or people with chronic physical ailments. Mental ailments and my minor physical conditions don't seem to fit the qualifications.
Another thing we looked into was pet insurance. It seems to be a flat fee each month that will help cover your vet bills. Does anyone have experience with any of these? Are they worth it in the long run? Perhaps are there large co-pays? Could anyone recommend a provider to look into?
Alternatively, if anyone knows of any programs that may be of assistance to me, that perhaps I didn't stumble across myself, it would mean a lot to me if you could drop me a link to it. Thanks to everyone who read this far. I appreciate any advice you may have for me.
