Pets for Asthma sufferer?

I’m 22, I’m currently living with my parents while attending college.

I’m hoping to get a pet of my own (as opposed to our family pets). The main issue is I have bad asthma. I’m quite allergic to cats and pretty bad with dogs - that hasn’t stopped us getting 2 boxers and a number of litters. I come out in hives, I start itching, coughing and sneezing if they’re very hyper jumping around and rubbing up on me.

I’ve two main conditions - Can’t be a rat (or rat like animal) or a snake (or snake like animal).. It also can’t be something that would compete with my dogs, I mean they’d probably hate a cat but something whereby it’d be easier to keep them separate would be a good option.

Any suggestions?
