Question about cancelling tests for my cat

I posted last week about my cat (female, 8yrs 13lbs & spayed) having symptoms of a UTI or bladder infection, but my vet being booked solid. (She was straining to go, many little accidents/piddles around the house that were tinted pink, continuous grooming).

Luckily they managed to fit her in at closing time, and she was prescribed a general antibiotic and painkillers. The vet also wanted a urine sample to ensure it wasn't crystals and that the antibiotics would be enough. I paid just over $200 in advance for the "urinalysis and culture".

We were sent home with basically a kit and instructions for me to collect the sample at home.

Yeah, it was a fail. I really tried. I didn't sleep the first night. My cat completely ignored the litter box with the plastic pellets (she's quite finicky and needs a deep litter box filled with clumping litter). There were multiple accidents, and zero samples collected.

I contacted the vet the next day, who said to start on the antibiotics and try to get a sample the next day or two.

Its day 3 of the meds and they look to be working. Still no success on the sample. If the antibiotics are working then it's probably getting to the point it's too late for the tests to be useful.

I'm contacting my vet tomorrow. But would it be out of the question to cancel the testing and culture? Is it unreasonable to expect any money back if the tests aren't done?

My cat has had no health issues in the 8 years I've had her, so I've never encountered situations like this. Aside from being a little dopey from the mild painkillers she's back to normal.
