I also posted about this to r/AskVet so I’m just going to copy and paste what I wrote there on here:
Species: Cats
Age: Sort of unknown. Older cat was taken in as a stray but we think she is roughly 7. Kitten also started as a stray so we aren’t certain but we think he is roughly 12 weeks.
Sex/Neuter status: Neither are neutered/spayed. Older cat is female, kitten is male.
My mum recently brought home a kitten whose mother (a stray) abandoned him and his litter at my uncles house. Our existing cat, who we took in as a stray, doesn’t like the situation and is aggressive. She usually growls and hisses at him but has taken a swipe at him a couple of times. We’ve only had the kitten for a week but things don’t seem to be getting better between them and the older one seems more stressed when she is near him.
We’d obviously like to keep him but if we can’t improve the situation we don’t think it would be fair to either of them so we are willing to re-home him (the kitten) if necessary.
The kitten was also diagnosed with ringworm by a vet recently. I don’t know if that’s relevant but I thought I’d add it just in case.
