Why does our cat cry?

My partner moved in with me about a month ago. Inherited a cat (Russian Blue probably, not a purebreed though) and a kid.

Around 5am the cat will start crying and yowling every morning. She's got food, she's got water, we have literally never played with her during that time so it's not that. Our door is open so she's not blocked in or out.

Frankly I'd like her to chill, because it wakes me up a good 30 minutes before I have to get up for work. And I'd like to be able to close our bedroom door, but she'll cry and pick at the carpet if we do that.

She's probably 2-3, and I've never had a cat before so I don't know WTF is going on. She's affectionate and friendly and I do like her.

We were worried about the new space but she seems to like it, it's just the early morning jam sessions driving me nuts.

She's fixed, so I don't think it's 'summoning the hordes of suitors'.
