So my French Bulldog started to walk funny and long story short he was diagnosed with Spinal arachnoid diverticulum (SAD) which is a build-up of fluid on the spine that prevents nerve signals passing freely to the legs and other parts behind that area.
So we took him to a specialist and asked them to carry out the MRI test and whatever else was needed to determine the cause and prep for surgery, we had insurance that is called 'Super Unlimited Lifetime Cover'.
He had the scan and they provided the diagnosis and the plan for surgery. it now turns out that the insurance has an 'Annual Limit' of £1000 which we had not noticed and is clearly not going to cover the cost of the MRI or the surgery, but the MRI has already been completed and we owe £4000.
I know that we should have read the policy documents back to front before signing up to be sure the policy would cover and i obviously have no leg to stand on in this area, the insurance will not cover it.
My question is that should the vet have performed the MRI etc. not knowing if:
- The pet insurance would cover the bill.
- we can afford to pay if the insurance won't
The situation i am in now is that i cannot afford to pay for the MRI by any stretch of the imagination so i don't understand how they could let this go ahead and plunge us into debt whilst being completely confident with our severely over-egged 'Super Unlimited Lifetime Cover'
Any help would be appreciated.
