Unexpected pet death: need advice ASAP!

I know this is macabre, but I just need some advice because i don’t know what to do.

My 22 year old pet cat unexpectedly died today (Saturday) and unfortunately there’s no cremation services available until Monday. So the animal hospital told me to put her in the freezer.

So I emptied out my home freezer (which is attached to my fridge - it’s one unit with two doors) put her in a plastic bag (not sealed) and into a cardboard box and put the box in the freezer.

I honestly couldn’t handle the thought of a corpse in my freezer so I went out and bought another freezer to put her in until Monday.

But my question is - is the food in my fridge okay?! They are different components I know, but I’m like terrified they use the same vent or something and since I didn’t have her sealed in there could she have contaminated the fridge?

She was in there about 5 hours. Afterwards I cleaned the freezer with bleach... now the fridge smells the tiniest bit like bleach... which makes me think the vents might be shared which makes me worry.

But the body didn’t smell and neither did the fridge or freezer and there was no liquids.

Has anyone had the experience? What do I do? I don’t want to eat contaminated food and right now the thought of it makes me nauseous... but it’s also like $200 worth of groceries so I’d like to save them if I could.

Please help!! Thanks in advance
