Alberta Cat Treatment

Help. My cat is one year old, has been fed urinary tract food for almost his whole life. Wife bought cheap wal mart food, mixed it 50/50 with the urinary, then straight cheap food after. I told her not to. One bag of food. My cat ended up with a swollen hard stomache and rushed to the vet, I was quoted $3000 for treatment or to put him down. It was an extra $500 because it was the weekend. They drained some sand like material from his bladder. No surgery, just catheter drugs and hands on working with him. Now we are being told there is a 50 percent chance he will plug up again within a week.

I used to have this procedure done for $600 until that vet retired (my oldest cat had it twice). I had to agree to the price, if his bladder bursts he dies. Now I'm extremely concerned that they are going to offer me the same options if I have to bring him back in.

Is there a price guide? Is there a law? Is there anything? I can explore other options now that the emergency is over maybe phone other towns nearby or in Saskatchewan where I've heard it's cheaper? Help me save my fur baby, I cant afford any more they drained my bank account with this procedure! I feel helpless and everything may be fine after he comes home (tomorrow maybe) but I feel like I'm being bent over a barrel and used by this vet.
