I'm from New Delhi, India, where stringent pet safety rules are non existent. I own seven dogs, all of which are pariahs, or strays, as you'd call them. They're all adopted, sterilised, well fed, and vaccinated. Since they're extremely protective for the house and tend to growl and snarl at passerby's, they live in the yard, and are let out on the street at night, following which they return in the morning. Yesterday, amidst an uproar of canines barking and snapping right in front of my house, I found a small corgi, with a leash and collar included. There was no clue of where he appeared from, and who let him out. Fearing that he'd be torn apart by my dogs who were overly hostile at the sight of another dog who may seem to ensnare their food source, I took him in. He didn't eat much, just drank a little water and fell asleep. He was primarily docile, and it looked that his previous owners took good care of his hygiene since his nails were clipped and he was completely free of ticks. He didn't respond to any of the sounds or commands I use to call my other dogs, just fell asleep. I tried taking him for a walk at night, hoping that he'd lead me to his old residence, but it was of no avail as the other strays from other streets cornered us and being submissive, he complied by lying down on the ground with his tail tucked in between his legs. In succession to this futile attempt, he slept in my room and scratched at the doors almost all night. Since he was clearly a toy dog, I figured that he'd be litter trained, and I let him out for a bit so he could relieve himself, which he didn't, instead, he proceeded to climb on the roof and unsuccessfully look for a way out of the house. It was a sleepless night, with him waking me up at 5am in the morning by jumping into my bed and snuggling in next to me. I took him for a walk immediately, hoping for fewer obstacles, and he led me on a merry chase over a scent he had clearly identified, which again, ended unsuccessfully, as it led a bit too far from where I live, establishing that he was, in fact, abandoned. Not a single person recognised him, the dogs were hostile everywhere we went. I had shared his pictures to a few WhatsApp groups comprising of members from different NGOs and animal friendly communities, hoping that someone would recognise him, but it was of no use. Now he's in the house, whimpering and scratching at the door every chance he gets, eating selectively, and howling every fifteen minutes in response to which my other dogs get incited and start barking at their loudest, due to which I've received numerous complaints. I'm at a loss for words and options, since I hate seeing him so homesick and melancholic, but letting him out with be dangerous for his very existence in the world as the small, sad snowball that he is. The police, or whatever semblance of that we have here is as useless as it can get, and especially useless for something as subjectively trivial as this.
Please help me make him happy again, he's very affectionate with me and it's heartbreaking to see him sitting next to the door, waiting to be let out, even though it'll kill him.
